Academia is exhausting
I am exhausted by the endless auto-promotion of my academic colleagues. Every time I open LinkedIn because I get an invitation, or have to respond a message because someone thinks it appropriate to contact me through a proprietary app, I am overwhelmed by the amount of randomly ordered new posts ("EveRYonE is WorkINg sO HaRD"), making the website barely distinguishable from splog.
With the advent of AI and the ease of generating "content", everyone has a responsibility to be mindful and avoid polluting the Internet. I have encountered, often through Mastodon, a consistent interest in the small web, with minimalist layout and focus on the ideas and content, avoiding heavy frameworks (where pages that take ages to load), big tech and advertising.
